The Season of Summer, Khaitha (meaning summer in Syriac), begins with the commemoration of the Twelve Apostles of our Lord. Spanning around seven weeks, this liturgical season is a time marked by themes of harvest, fruitfulness, and spiritual growth.
In nature, summer is the season for gathering crops and storing fruits. In the Church, Khaitha is the time to celebrate the fruits of faith, holiness, and mission. It reflects the spiritual harvest brought forth by the apostles, martyrs and early Christian communities who laid the foundations of the Church and spread the Gospel to every corner of the world.
This season reminds us that the Church—established through the sacrifice, zeal, and witness of the apostles—now gathers the fruits of sanctity, martyrdom and faithful discipleship. It is a call to each of us to bear spiritual fruit in our own lives: to be deeply rooted in the Gospel, nourished by the sacraments and dedicated to service.
As Syro-Malabar Catholics, inheritors of the apostolic mission brought to our land by St.Thomas the Apostle, we are invited in this season to renew our own missionary spirit and witness to Christ in word and deed.
