Walking with Jesus: The Final Steps of the Way of the Cross
As we continue our Lenten journey, we walk with Jesus through the final moments of his passion. These last stations of the Way of the Cross reveal the deepest expressions of Christ’s love, mercy, and sacrifice for humanity.
For the families of St. Bernadette Mission, this is a time to reflect together on the meaning of forgiveness, the faithfulness of Mary, and the hope that comes from Christ’s victory over death.
Today we reflect on the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Stations of the Cross.
Twelfth Station- Jesus Dies on the Cross: The way of forgiveness.
As Jesus hung on the cross in deep pain, His final words were filled not with anger but with
mercy: “Father, forgive them.” Even in suffering, Jesus chose love and forgiveness.
In our daily lives, we often experience hurt from others -sometimes from people close to us, sometimes from neighbours, friends, or even family members. Words may wound us, misunderstandings may divide us, and at times people may try to bring us down. Yet Jesus shows us another way: the way of forgiveness.
Forgiveness does not mean forgetting the pain, but it means choosing love over bitterness.
When we forgive, we free our hearts and allow God’s peace to enter our lives.
In our families and neighbourhoods, let us be people who bring healing rather than division. Just as forgave, let us also forgive.
Thirteenth Station- Jesus is Taken Down from the cross: A mother’s Faithful Love
After Jesus died, His body was gently taken down from the cross and placed in the loving arms of His mother, Mary. She stood by Him until the very end. A mother’s love remained faithful even in the darkest moment.
In our own lives, we too experience times of sorrow, confusion, and pain. During such moments, we are not alone. Mother Mary stands with us as she stood with Jesus. She understands the suffering of a mother, the worries of a family, and the struggles of life.
When our families face difficulties–financial struggles, misunderstandings,illness,or loneliness-let us turn to Mary and ask for help.She gently lead us to Jesus and reminds us that God never abandons His children.
Fourteenth Station- Jesus is Laid in the Tomb: Hope Beyond Darkness.
Jesus was laid in the tomb, and it seemed like the end. But for God, the tomb was not the end—it was the beginning of new life. From darkness came resurrection, from sorrow came hope.
Sometimes in our lives we also experience moments that feel like a “tomb”: broken relationships, disappointments, or worries about the future. Yet the story of Jesus reminds us that God can bring new beginnings even from the darkest moments.
Let us carry hope in our hearts. In our families and among our neighbours, let us encourage one another, support one another, and walk together in faith. Because Jesus died for us and rose again for us, we can always believe that love is stronger than suffering and hope is stronger than despair.
As we continue Walking with Jesus,may our homes become places of forgiveness,our families become places of love, and our neighborhood become places of hope.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, as we reflect on Your sacrifice and love, teach us to forgive as You forgave and to trust in God’s plan even in moments of darkness. Through the intercession of Mother Mary, strengthen our families and fill our homes with faith, love, and hope.
