Reflection for the 2nd Sunday of the Liturgical Season of Summer (Khaitha)
Gospel: Luke 15:11–32 — The Parable of the Prodigal Son
“While he was still far away, his father saw him and was filled with love.” — Luke 15:20
💭 Learning from the Prodigal Son
We are all human, and we all fall.
We may speak in anger, act in selfishness or turn away from what is right. But what matters most is this: the courage to return, to repent and to begin again.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us the story of the Prodigal Son; a young man who left his father’s house, squandered his inheritance and fell into hardship. When he came to his senses, he said;
“I will get up and go to my father and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.” (Luke 15:18)
And what did the father do?
He didn’t scold or turn him away. Instead, he ran to embrace him, kissed him and welcomed him home with great joy.
This is the heart of our heavenly Father: always ready to forgive, always eager to restore. No matter how far we’ve gone, God’s mercy reaches further.
🫶 Saying “I’m Sorry” is a Sign of Strength
In a world that often confuses pride with strength, we are reminded that true strength lies in humility.
To say “I’m sorry” is not to lose dignity; it is to gain peace, healing and reconciliation.
As St. Augustine said:
“God forgives like a mother, who kisses the offense into everlasting forgetfulness.”
Let us also learn to forgive others, just as our Father in heaven forgives us.
🙏 Growing Closer to God — Simple Steps to Reconciliation
To live in communion with God, we must keep our hearts open to His grace.
Here are a few spiritual practices that help us return to Him and grow in holiness:
- 🕯️Daily family prayer
- ⛪ Faithful participation in the Holy Qurbana (Mass)
- ✝️ Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
- 🤲 Helping those in need
- ❤️Sincerely saying “I’m sorry” when we fall short
These are not burdens, instead they are pathways to grace and peace in our homes and communities.
🤝 Let’s Return to God; Together
We all make mistakes. But God never gives up on us. He stands at the door and waits for our return. Just as the father ran to embrace his son, God longs to receive us; not with judgment, but with joy.
This Sunday, let us renew our trust in the mercy of God. Let us also become a community of mercy, beginning with our own families.
“Be merciful, just as your father is merciful.” — Luke 6:36

May this story of reconciliation inspire a new beginning in our mission. Like the father in the parable, the Church opens her arms to receive all who return. Let us continue building a mission united in one and rooted in mercy, humility and love.
