The Heart of the Gospel — The Kerygma
The word Kerygma comes from the Greek for “proclamation.” It is the core message of our faith — the Good News that Jesus loves us, died for us, rose again, and lives among us today. The Kerygma is not just an idea or teaching. it is an encounter with the living Jesus who offers each of us new life and hope.
Pope Francis reminds us that the Kerygma must be heard again because it is the foundation of every Christian life: “Jesus Christ loves you; He gave His life to save you; and now He is living at your side every day.”
Walking with Jesus — The Emmaus Experience
After the resurrection, two disciples walked on the road to Emmaus, hearts heavy with disappointment and confusion. They did not recognize that the Risen Jesus was walking beside them. It was only when He broke bread with them that their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him.
This Gospel story mirrors our own journey. Often, we too walk with downcast faces, unaware that Jesus is present in our struggles, routines and even our pain. The Emmaus story teaches us that Jesus never abandons us. He listens to our worries, walks with us and reveals Himself in moments of prayer, Scripture and the Eucharist.
The Message of the Kerygma — Good News for Every Heart
At its heart, the Kerygma proclaims that God loves you and has a plan for your life; sin separates us from God, but His mercy is greater than our failings. Jesus died and rose again to save us from sin and death. We are invited to repent, believe, receive the Holy Spirit, and live in Christ — sharing His love with others.
Encountering Jesus in Daily Life
Jesus is not a distant figure from history; He is alive and present in every part of our lives. He enlightens us in confusion, strengthens us in weakness and frees us from fear and sin.
Every person we meet carries the face of Christ. In loving others, we meet Him.
Living the Kerygma
The Kerygma calls each of us to encounter Jesus personally through prayer, Scripture and the sacraments. We recognize His presence in the people we meet and share His love by word and action — in our homes, workplaces, and community. Like the disciples of Emmaus, may our hearts “burn within us” as we walk with the Lord and discover Him anew in every encounter.

A Prayer to Live the Kerygma
Lord Jesus, open our eyes to see You in our daily lives — in the people we meet, the work we do, and the moments we share.
May Your love transform our hearts, renew our faith, and send us forth as witnesses of Your Good News.
