Founded on 3 October 1947 in Bharananganam, the Cherupushpa Mission League (CML) is one of the most vibrant lay missionary movements within the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. Inspired by the missionary spirit of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the league encourages children and youth to grow in faith, serve the Church, and support missionary work.
Our Founding Vision
CML was founded by Rev. Fr. Joseph Maliparampil and P.C. Abraham Pallattukunnel (Kunjettan) with the aim of fostering local vocations and building a strong missionary foundation within the Indian Church. Today, it continues to be a powerful tool for forming faith-filled and service-minded young people.
Living the Mission
CML focuses on four pillars:
- Love
- Renunciation
- Service
- Endurance
Members meet weekly for prayer, catechism, and charitable activities, helping them grow spiritually and develop leadership qualities. The league also encourages vocations to the priesthood and religious life and supports missions through prayer and fundraising.
Annual Gathering: A Celebration of Faith
A highlight of every year is the Annual CML Rally, where members from different parishes come together in joyful unity. This event includes:
- Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration
- Colorful parades and flag hoisting
- Inspirational talks by missionaries and clergy
- Cultural programs and competitions
- Award ceremonies honoring outstanding members and units
These gatherings strengthen the missionary spirit and build a sense of belonging among young Catholics across Kerala and beyond.
Guided by the Church
The CML is officially recognized by the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. In 2016, the Syro-Malabar Bishops’ Council took direct leadership of the league, reflecting its vital role in the Church’s evangelizing mission.
