In the hills of Wayanad, Kerala, a small community of 40 faithful families have lived in a remote, landslide-prone area. These families were poor, their only strength was their deep faith in the Lord Jesus. They often sought comfort in prayer, and in a time of growing concern, they decided to hold a special 15-day prayer in front of a modest chapel dedicated to Mother Mary.
As the prayers began, a sense of unity and hope filled the village. But soon after the 15-day prayer, an unexpected shift in the weather occurred. Dark clouds gathered overhead, and heavy rains began to fall relentlessly for a few days. One night, as the rain pounded against the roofs, one of the prayer leaders, a devout woman, was unable to sleep. Feeling uneasy, she rose from her bed and began reciting the Holy Rosary. As she prayed, an intense smell of mud filled the air, and a strong sense of urgency overtook her. She felt compelled to act.
Without hesitation, she reached out to the other members of the prayer group, urging them to join her in prayer, even though it was midnight. One by one, they awoke and began praying fervently from their homes, pleading for protection.
As the night wore on, the rain grew fiercer, and the sound of rushing water became more alarming. The stream that flowed through their village began to swell dangerously, and loud, eerie banging noises echoed through the valley. Sensing imminent danger, the prayer leader urged everyone to leave their homes and gather in a sturdier building for safety. Trusting her instincts, the entire community moved together into a small, secure house and continued praying through the long, stormy night.
The rain seemed endless, and the water level continued to rise, threatening everything in its path. Yet, despite their fears, the families remained huddled together, their faith unshaken as they prayed for protection under Mother Mary’s care.
By dawn, the storm began to weaken, and the rains gradually subsided. The villagers cautiously ventured out, anxious to see what had happened to their homes. To their astonishment, they found that their beloved chapel, the heart of their devotion, had been swept away by the flood. Yet, not a single one of their homes or possessions had been touched by the rising waters. It was as if an invisible shield had protected them.
The villagers believed with all their hearts that it was a miraculous intervention by Mother Mary herself that had saved them from certain disasters. Though their chapel was gone, they had been spared, and their faith had been affirmed most extraordinarily.
For these humble families, it was clear: they had witnessed a miracle, and Mother Mary had indeed come to their rescue, shielding them from the tragedy that had threatened their lives.

The people of Kerala have shown resilience, but they now need our prayers and tangible aid more than ever. Let us also pray for those who have lost their lives and for courage for those affected.
